The Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) has announced that beginning February 6, 2026, all Florida driver license knowledge exams will be administered exclusively in English. This change applies statewide and affects anyone required to take the written knowledge test, including first-time drivers and certain applicants transferring or reinstating a license. Translated versions of the exam will no longer be available after this date.
If you or a family member plan to apply for a Florida driver license in 2026 or later, it’s important to begin preparing now. Applicants should expect to study traffic laws, road signs, and testing materials in English and ensure they are comfortable reading and understanding exam questions. Driving schools and instructors can be a valuable resource for building both driving knowledge and English comprehension before testing. We encourage students to plan ahead and monitor official FLHSMV updates, as well as our Announcements, as the implementation date approaches.
